Application of a new laser positioning and navigation system in the removal of foreign body in human soft tissue |

Abstract Objective To explore a safe, accurate and rapid way to remove foreign body in human tissue. Methods From September 2013 to December 2017, we treated 40 cases of metallic foreign bodies in human tissue, ranging from 5 to 75 years old, and foreign body remaining time from 30 minutes to 40 years. The position of foreign bodies were not fixed, covering the head, neck, trunk (including abdominal cavity), limbs and other parts. Important anatomy of organs surrounded including the internal carotid sheath membrane, peritoneal wall, tissue around kidney, pelvic floor, perianal, etc. The shape of foreign bodies had greater variability, and the most fine diameter was only 0.3 mm. Results All the cases were successfully detected by the new laser positioning and navigation system, and the complications such as vascular nerve injury, metallic foreign material residue and the formation of the sinus tract were not found during and after the operation. Conclusion With the aid of new laser positioning and navigation system, the operation can quickly and accurately locate the metallic foreign body in soft tissue, the laser direction is the operative path, and the safety and success rate of foreign body removal are effectively improved.
