Abstract Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of FloTrac/Vigileo(third generation)on cardiac function monitoring for ICU mechanical ventilation patients with sepsis. Methods Sepsis patients were chosen in the third ICU ward of Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University(EI⁃CU)receiving invasive mechanical ventilation and FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring simultaneously from October 2013 to June 2015. Stroke volume(SV)and cardiac output(CO)were measured by FloTrac/Vigileo.At the same time, left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)was collected by bedside cardiac ultrasound.Correlations between SV, CO and LVEF were evaluated by Persion correlation analysis. Results A total of 74 patients were contained. SV ranged from 26 mL/beat to 125 mL/beat, mean value(72.24±2.63)mL/beat, 95% confidence interval(CI)67.00~77.48 mL/beat and CO ranged from 2.30 L/min to 13.30L/min, mean value(6.36±0.30)L/min, 95%CI 5.76~6.97 L/min measured by FloTrac/Vigileo. LVEF ranged from 38% to 76%, mean value(58.95±0.77)%, 95% CI 57.42%~60.49% determined by Philips CX-50 portable color ultrasound. The results of Pearson correlation analysis between SV, CO and LVEF were r=0.454(P<0.05)and r=0.400(P<0.05), respectively. Conclusion There are good clinical consistencies between SV, CO measured by FloTrac/Vigileo and LVEF determined by bedside cardiac ultrasound in ICU mechanical ventilation patients with sepsis. SV and CO measured by FloTrac/Vigileo can accurately reflect cardiac function.
