Abstract Cardiac arrest (CA) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) have long been the research hotspots in emergency medicine. Because of the sudden occurrence of CA, it is difficult to conduct clinical controlled trials, so animal experiments are indispensable. Establishing an animal CA model that can simulate the clinical maximum is an urgent problem. At present, experimental animals commonly used in CA and CPR research can be roughly divided into three groups: a small animal, such as a rat, etc.; a medium-sized animal, such as a domestic rabbit, etc.; a large animal, such as a pig, a dog, etc. As for the way of cardiac arrest, there are electric shock, asphyxia, and clamp the great vessels. In this paper, the basic requirements, types, manufacturing methods and characteristics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation animal models at home and abroad are reviewed.
