Abstract Objective To improve the rat model of sepsis associated encephalopathy (SAE) on the basis of SAE rat model by electroencephalogram (EEG) biological monitoring. Method Eighty rats underwent cecal ligation and puncture(CLP) surgery following implanted electrodes. The survival rats were divided into SAE and NSAE group based on EEG monitoring results and Morris water maze (MWM) joint nerve function score method respectively. Then compare the difference between the two diagnostic methods. Results Two methods above are highly consistent and coincide with pathological changes of the rats brain specimens. Conclusion The EEG method rat model for SAE has low stability. MWM joint nerve function score method shows a high consistence with EEG method and can be used to screen the SAE rat models.
