Abstract This review summarized literatures on modified early warning scoring (MEWS) system in emergency treatment, including the bedside application of pre-hospital care, emergency trauma and non-trauma patients. Compared with other emergency scoring system, most researchers believe that the MEWS system is quick, simple, inexpensive and easy to operate. It is suitable for emergency department. However, more studies are needed, because the optimal cut-off point of the score remains controversial, and the number of cases is still small.
