Abstract Objective To determine whether the microRNA, miR - 1, can act as a biomarker for the prediction of myocardial ischemia or the onset of ventricular arrhythmias after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) . Method AMI patients that satisfied the following requirements were selected for this study:(1)AMI patients with acute ST segment elevation. (2) Patients must be treated following the guidelines listed in the unified clinical pathway of ACCF / AHA 2013. ( 3 ) Patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty ( PTCA) as reperfusion strategy. The selected patients were divided into two groups based on the occurrence of VA. Blood samples were obtained 2and 6 hours after the onset of AMI. The expression level of miR - 1 was quantitated using real - time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction ( qPCR), and the QTc dispersion and ACC / AHA score were acquired too. Correlations and differences among the expression of miR - 1, QTc dispersion, and ACC / AHA score were evaluated. Results 21 patients were selected, 5 of them had VA after AMI. Patients with the onset of VA have higher miR - 1 expression, longer QTc dispersion, and higher ACC / AHA score, compared with those without the occurrence of VA. The expression of miR - 1 is correlated with either QTc dispersion or ACC / AHA score(P < 0. 01). Conclusions The expression of miR - 1 afterAMI is significantly associated with both myocardial ischemia and acute ventricular arrhythmias.
