Abstract Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) has become an important part of the treatment of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). And home NIV has relatively clear benefits for patients with COPD combined with chronic hypercapnia. But the significance of home NIV treatment is not completely clear for AECOPD patients. In order to get clinical workers attention and improve the quality of life of patients with AECOPD and prognosis, this review summarizes research progress on the definition, the use of current status and significance, settings and management of home NIV.
